The 5G & Beyond, IoT Research Group

Established in December 2021. It is one of three main research groups of School of Electrical Engineering, International University, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

Research
In recent years, the fast development of wireless and mobile communication leads to the requirement of high-speed data transmission and optimization of power resources and spectrum efficiency. 5G & Beyond communication systems are a set of goals that must be achieved for future wireless networks and are believed to be ubiquitous, human-centric, full band, strongly secure, and intelligent. All of the 5G & Beyond evolutions operate equally well in the industrial domain such as smart factories, transport and energy, and also in the public domain such as health, automation, vehicular technology and education. It is indispensable to ensure integrity throughout the chain of transmission. So far, the research on 5G & Beyond is eagerly being looked forward to revealing new and interesting open issues.
To provide various services of low-latency, massive access and security, many emerging technologies have been proposed for 5G & Beyond, especially for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The most promising technologies for physical-layer design of transmissions to utilize the spectrum efficiently are non-orthogonal multiple access, full duplex, cognitive radio and cell-free massive MIMO, which their combinations are introduced as novel multiple access networks. Besides, the cross-layer design between physical and MAC layers has been considered heavily as its importance to optimize the single or multiple information transmissions, especially in short-packet block length. Also, machine learning has been contributed as a key to simple and efficient implementations for wireless communications and networks. Last but not least, covert (privacy) or low probability of detection communication has been considered as a novel topic in physical layer security, which aims to hide the information to the adversary and can be utilized along with secure transmissions. All aspects related to physical and MAC layers become critical and to be a core for the 5G & Beyond networks and applications.
This 5G & Beyond, IoT Research Group of School of Electrical Engineering, HCMIU targets to provide an overview of cutting-edge research of emerging technologies for 5G & Beyond wireless networks and communications for IoT applications and green communications, in both academic and industry.
